  Video Lottery Terminals and Electronic Table Games: Similar in appearance to classic slot machines or as simulated classic table games, these terminals are linked to a centralized system maintained by the Gaming Commission that tracks the game play and earnings for each game.
  

  • Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) have the same appearance as slot machines. VLTs must receive winning outcomes transmitted by the central system.

  • Electronic Table Games (ETGs) offer video versions of popular casino games like roulette, craps, and baccarat. ETGs are capable of generating winning outcomes at each table.

  Video lottery gaming operations began in 2004 at Saratoga Gaming & Raceway in Saratoga Springs and have since expanded to eight additional facilities. As of January 1, 2013, there were 17,213 such machines operating in New York State.

  Indian Gaming: In 1988 Congress passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act permitting federally recognized Indian tribes the ability to conduct gaming activities under certain circumstances. This law allows traditional Indian gaming, bingo, pull tabs, lotto, punch boards, tip jars, and certain card games on tribal land. However, it requires a Tribal/State compact for all other forms of gaming. Three tribes have lawful gaming in New York State:
  

  • The Seneca Nation of Indians operate the Class III Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, the Class III Seneca Allegany Casino, the Class III Seneca Buffalo Casino in Buffalo, and Class II bingo on both their Cattaraugus and Allegany Reservation lands

  • The St. Regis Mohawks operate the Class II Mohawk Bingo Palace and the Class III Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, which also houses Class II poker games

  • The Oneida Indian Nation of New York operates the Turning Stone Casino, which houses both Class II bingo and poker, as well as its Class III gaming operations.

  The Gaming Commission maintains a constant twenty-four hour presence within the gaming facilities of the five Class III facilities to maintain the integrity of all activities conducted in regard to Class III gaming, and to insure the fair and honest operation of such gaming activities. Additionally, the State conducts background investigations on all employees of the casino and enterprises who conduct gaming related business with the casino to ensure their suitability. Pursuant to each Compact the State jointly regulates Class III gaming facilities with a Nation or Tribal Gaming Agency, respectively. Class II gaming activities, e.g., bingo, pull tabs, lotto, punch boards, tip jars, and certain card games, are regulated by the Tribe in conjunction with the National Indian Gaming Commission, although tribes, under certain circumstances, may self-regulate these activities.

  The New York State Gaming Commission, the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and the New York Council on Problem Gambling have formed the Responsible Play Partnership to address problem gambling in New York State. The other forms of gambling include over 70 poker tables and more than 10 horse tracks. The biggest establishment of the State of New York (NY) is the Resort World Casino New York City located in Jamaica only 10 minutes from the JFK International Airport. In addition to Indian gaming the New York State Gaming Commission has licensed 11 racetracks. Nine of these racetracks (also known as racinos) are licensed for Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) and Electronic Table Games (ETGs) gaming.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino (AMC) is a Native American gambling enterprise run by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe in Akwesasne, New York. It has 140,000 square feet (13,000 m²) for 1,800+ slot machines and 30 table games. The casino is located within the boundaries of the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation as defined in the 1796 Treaty with the Seven Nations of Canada.

Facilities[edit]

Akwesasne Mohawk Casino is a casino resort with hotel, spas, diner and lounge. This resort provides 150 rooms and luxury suites. Spas are located on the second floor. Cascade Lounge offers drink and entertainment within the casino. This resort also has shows of live music, comedy, sport events and more.The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino has 30 table games which includes Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Mississippi Stud, Let It Ride!, Pai Gow Poker, Roulette, Spanish 21, Double Deck Blackjack, and Craps. Akwesasne Mohawk Casino also has bingo in their Mohawk Bingo Palace everyday throughout the week. Cosmic Bingo starts every Saturday night at 10:30 with theme night costume contest for cash drawings. Within the Mohawk Bingo Palace there is a poker room that offers shark tank bounty hunter every Sunday, unlimited rebuy no-limit Texas hold'em every Monday, Turbo Tuesday and no limit hold'em bounty tournament every Wednesday. There are also more than 1800 slot machines.^[1]

Expansion[edit]

The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino was opened on April 12, 1999. It has grown into one of the largest entertainment destinations in the North Country. In 2011 the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino has decided to invest $74 million to expand the casino.^[2] On May 9, 2013 the casino has completed an expansion that included a 7-story hotel with 150 rooms, heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi, fitness center, spas and restaurants.^[3]

Employment awards[edit]

Every year the committee would sit down in a room and review the nominations and select the winner of manager of the year by voting. Each winner received a $1,000 Keybank gift card and a plaque of recognition. All of the nominees received a $150 AMCR gift certificate and a plaque.

In 2014, the committee was unable to come up with a clear winner for 2013, therefore the committee held a draw for choosing the winner. Associate of the Year's winner was Jeffrey Lashomb and manager of the Quarter's winner was Kanvvy Palmer.^[4]
